One of the main omissions from my previous post, where I discussed some of the unanswered questions so far in Doctor Who was that of the mysterious lady with the eyepatch.
We only saw her for a brief moment in Episode 2: Day of the Moon as Amy Pond was wandering through the orphanage after her encounter with horde of Silents sleeping on the ceiling.
As Amy creeps down a corridor, a sliding hatch opens on one of the doors to reveal the face of a lady with a metallic eye-patch over her right eye. Amy says:
“Hello. Who are you?”
Then, Eye Patch Lady (as she is called in the episode’s end credits) turns to her head to the left, presumably to face someone and says:
“No, I think she’s just dreaming.”
Before slamming the hatch shut. For those that don’t remember, here’s a few pics to jog your memory:
The actress that plays the eyepatch lady is Frances Barber and, according to her CV, she  plays a character called Kovarian (or Lady Kovarian, as quoted by some sources) in this series.
Apparently, she’ll be popping up again in Episode 7: A Good Man Goes to War, where she is credited as playing Kovarian and in Episode 8, where she plays Madame Kovarian.
There are rumours of a return of the Cybermen in these episodes, so could the metallic eyepatch be cyberman-technology?
Incidentally, there’s strong indications that episode 7 will be when we find out River Song’s true identity.
I should also mention that episode 7 will be the last episode of series 6 part 1. Part 2 of series 6 will be returning later in the year, starting with episode 8.
So that’s about all we know for sure, however the Internet is rife with theories about who she might be. I also heard a rumour that there is a scene in which Amy is sad because she has killed Madame Kovarian, but whether this is true or not remains to be seen…
As always, your comments and theories are very much welcome
UPDATE: 07/05/2011
Eye Patch Lady/Kovarian featured in tonights episode, The Curse of the Black Spot.
Again, a hatch opened, this time on the side of the ship whilst Amy was asleep. She awoke to Kovarian’s voice saying:
“It’s fine, you’re doing fine. Just stay calm.”
Before the hatch closes again.
UPDATE: 21/05/2011
Another quick glimpse of The Eye Patch Lady / Kovarian in The Rebel Flesh.

You think theyre heading for a buffy style ‘mental patient under observation’ delusion at some point?

Naa, not a mental patient thing but a midwife-delivery thing…maybe?
Is it possible that The Curse of The Black Spot was simply an explanation of how Amy can be pregnant and not-pregnant – i.e. two women in the same space and time from two nested universes…
That would explain the TARDIS’ confusion over whether she is or isn’t and we know that in the next episode they go outside of our universe ‘further than they’ve ever gone before’…
Just some thoughts to keep us guessing.
Keep up the good investigative work!

Yes, I go with the mid-wife thing. There are a lot of children in this series, and the space suit The Silence were so keen on was a bit like a life-supoort system, like a womb. Madame Kovarian is talking to Amy giving birth, and the events in this series are about birth, possibly from the perspective of the unborn child. How that works out though, Moffat knows.
