Another cracking episode of Doctor Who with Day of the Moon, last night. I thought the way the Doctor defeated the Silence was nothing short of genius!
A few questions from the premiere The Impossible Spaceman have now been answered but there’s still plenty of unresolved storylines that will hopefully be revealed as the series continues.
But more on that in a moment – first I want to take a look at the new secret message on the BBC Doctor Who website. Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b010y5l3 and click on the fourth dimension tab. Here, you’ll find lots of Doctor Who facts but if you look closely, each paragraph contains a single word in italics. When you put them together, you get the secretmessage:
We Found Your Message! You’re Alive! But What Secrets D’You Mean, My Friend.
Could this refer to Amy Pond’s messages via the nano-recorder that was implanted in her hand? Or perhaps the message of the Silent that was recorded by Canton on the video phone and ultimately resulted in the demise of the Silence? Or is there an even more cryptic message contained within it? Your thoughts are more than welcome in the comments section below
And don’t forget last weeks secret message that stated:
All The Secrets You Seek Can Be Found Here On The Web(b)
Anyway, after that slight detour, back to the Doctor Who unresolved storylines and unanswered questions.
Who’s River Song?
Firstly, we still don’t know who River Song is. Moffat has stated that her identity will be revealed in this series so it’s only a matter of time!
Who’s the Little Girl?
It seems we have another Timelord in this series after it appeared she was regenerating at the end of last night’s episode. From her actions in warning President Nixon about the Silence and reassuring the homeless guy that everything was okay before she regenerated, it would seem she is kind and benevolent, so that perhaps rules out The Master. We don’t know if Timelords can change gender during regeneration but the evidence seems to support them staying the same sex, so that may also suggest it isn’t The Master.
Other Timelords we know about include Omega (one of the most famous Timelords in Gallifreyan history), Romana, Rassilon, Rani, Susan Foreman and Jenny (from the episode The Doctor’s Daughter). Many Doctor Who fanatics have predicted the return of Omega this season.
Or maybe it’s a Timelord we don’t already know about – River Song perhaps – although surely the Doctor would know if she was a Timelord.
UPDATE: 10/05/2011: We may know who The Little Girl is.
Who Killed The Doctor?
We still don’t know who killed the future Doctor in Episode 1: The Impossible Astronaut. It was assumed that it was the little girl in the spacesuit, but now she’s no longer contained within the exo-skeleton, it opens the doors to it being literally anyone! Chances are this won’t be revealed until the season finale.
Why Did Amy Say She Was Pregnant?
Amy tells the Doctor she’s pregnant, then says she’s not! What’s going on there? We even saw a picture of Amy with a baby in what was presumably the little girl’s room. Is the mysterious little girl/timelord Amy’s baby? Maybe Amy was right when she said that travelling in the TARDIS could have made her baby have a ‘time-head’! Could Amy Pond’s daughter be River Song, thereby linking the two references to water?
What Did The Doctor Do To Apollo 11?
The Doctor was tinkering about with the electronics in the space shuttle. Was this just so that he could transmit the order to kill the Silent’s to the world or was there something more to it?
Who Tried To Blow Up The TARDIS?
And, of course, we still don’t know who tried to blow up the TARDIS in series 5 – or who’s voice it was that told River Silence Will Fall through the TARDIS’s control panel. Are they the same person?
I’m sure there’s lots more questions that I’ve forgotten, but my brain hurts now so if I’ve missed anything, do let me know in the comments section below
Oh, and why not re-watch series 5 to see the story arcs that are continuing from last season.
